ABOAGORA is an interdisciplinary and art-oriented international symposium held annually in Turku. The event consists of open AGORA sessions and various presentations and performances that combine the working methods and perspectives of science and art. Competence Spearhead Project is one of the strategic spearhead projects of the City of Turku. Its goal is to strengthen the expertise in the Turku region and enhance the city’s responsiveness to the needs of the labor market and business. The vision for Turku’s expertise directs the work.

Its goal is to develop and promote the operating conditions for art and culture in Turku in collaboration with stakeholders in the field. The Spearhead Project of Developing the City Center
Developing the City Center is one of the strategic spearhead projects of the City of Turku. This comprehensive urban development project aims to strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of Turku’s city center from the perspectives of business, tourism, housing, and enjoyment. The development areas include Aninkainen, Maritime Turku, Old Town, and the city center. Additionally, traffic and lighting solutions are developed in all areas.
Turku Urban Research Programme
Turun kaupunkitutkimusohjelma (Turku Urban Research Program) is a joint research program of the City of Turku, the University of Turku, and Åbo Akademi University. The program conducts academic research on urban development. The goal of the Urban Research Program is to provide tools for urban decision-making and enhance the exchange of information between universities and the city.
The Study in Turku network builds and promotes joint activities between the City of Turku and the five higher education institutions in Turku. This collaboration aims to make Turku the most interesting and attractive student city in Finland. The University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Humak University of Applied Sciences, and Yrkeshögskolan Novia, as well as the student unions and Business Turku, are also involved in the network’s activities. In Turku, the student city is created together!
Taikusydän – Arts and Health Coordination Center in Finland
Taikusydän is the national contact point and cooperation network for cultural well-being. Taikusydän communicates current news in the field of cultural well-being, compiles information about the field, and brings together professionals. The network develops and disseminates solutions to make the collaboration between professionals in the arts and culture sector and social, health, and educational professionals a permanent part of well-being-promoting services.
The Art House Turku was opened in spring 2022 as a home for art and culture – for artists, local residents, and tourists alike. Activities are spread out over the six floors of the former tobacco factory, and its courtyard buildings, in the middle of Turku’s Old Town. A wide array of creative professionals, including visual and performing artists, work on the premises, and the house presents all kinds of exhibitions, performances, events, and workshops.
